BSN Pre-Workout: N.O.-XPLODE, VASO and Cool Rush Compared

Which BSN pre-workout are you looking at?

BSN is the brand, while N.O.-XPLODE is its pre-workout family. A useful comparison starts with the complete product name: standard N.O.-XPLODE, N.O.-XPLODE VASO or N.O.-XPLODE Cool Rush. Their shared branding does not establish identical formulas. This guide reviews the U.S. manufacturer listings as of October 12, 2026.

Three versions, three label checks

  • Standard N.O.-XPLODE: BSN declares 275 mg caffeine and 1.8 g beta-alanine per serving. This is the red-tub version pictured here.
  • N.O.-XPLODE VASO: the manufacturer lists 300 mg caffeine, 8 g citrulline, 3.2 g beta-alanine and 1 g creatine nitrate per serving. It also lists yohimbe, so caffeine alone does not describe its stimulant profile.
  • N.O.-XPLODE Cool Rush: BSN declares 275 mg caffeine per serving and markets a cooling flavor sensation. That sensory feature does not establish stronger workout effects.

What you can and cannot calculate from the label

The standard product’s Blue Raz 16-serving panel uses an 18.5 g serving and proprietary matrices. Its 5.1 g Myogenic Matrix contains multiple ingredients, including creatine monohydrate and taurine. The total matrix weight cannot be reported as the creatine dose. Likewise, the 1 g N.O. Alpha Fusion blend does not disclose an individual citrulline amount.

VASO’s separately listed citrulline amount is therefore more straightforward to compare. Even then, ingredient form matters: creatine nitrate is a compound, and 1 g of it should not be equated with 1 g creatine monohydrate. A longer list or a larger scoop does not demonstrate better results for the finished product.

Directions are version-specific

Standard N.O.-XPLODE and Cool Rush explicitly direct users to stir the powder rather than shake it. Do not carry mixing instructions from another pre-workout into either product. Match the directions, serving weight and warnings to the actual tub, particularly when buying older packaging or a regional version.

The FDA’s caffeine guidance emphasizes differences in sensitivity and the importance of counting all sources. Coffee and energy drinks still contribute even when the pre-workout is taken for a different purpose. A stimulant-containing formula also deserves careful attention to its own warning panel.

A practical comparison

Write down the exact version, caffeine per labeled serving, disclosed ingredient amounts and cost per serving before comparing BSN with another brand. Keep undisclosed quantities marked as unknown. This is a source-based label comparison, without a personal taste test, laboratory analysis or evidence that one brand universally outperforms another.
