Start with the complete label
A pre-workout formula is a combination of ingredients sold for use around exercise. There is no single required recipe. Two products with similar names may differ substantially in serving size, caffeine and ingredient amounts.
Make your comparison from the Supplement Facts panel and directions, not the front label’s list of benefits. A clinical-sounding ingredient name is not proof that the finished blend has been tested.
Build a side-by-side comparison
- Product name, version and flavor.
- Grams and scoops per labeled serving.
- Caffeine amount and other stimulant sources.
- Amount of each ingredient relevant to your goal.
- Number of servings at the amount you would actually use.
- Price per serving, without assuming a coupon will apply.
Ask what the evidence actually tested
A study of one ingredient does not automatically validate a multi-ingredient formula. Check whether the research used the same amount, duration and type of exercise. NIH’s ingredient evidence overview is a useful starting point.
If an advertisement does not identify a study or explain the comparison, leave that claim out of your decision rather than filling in the gaps.
Keep the first comparison simple
Avoid introducing several new blends at once. Record the exact product, serving, workout time and any unwanted effects so you can discuss them meaningfully with a qualified professional. A stronger sensation does not demonstrate a better formula.
