Dust X Pre-Workout: DMHA Label and FDA Safety Warning

Dust X is a specific Blackstone Labs pre-workout, and its published DMHA content is the central concern. FDA considers DMHA an unsafe food additive and considers supplements containing it adulterated. We do not recommend Dust X containing DMHA, or treating it as a stronger training option to work up to.

What the manufacturer’s label actually lists

Blackstone’s Dust X page, checked October 13, 2026, links a Supplement Facts image stating one 10.5 g scoop and 25 servings. Per scoop it lists:

  • 350 mg caffeine anhydrous.
  • 150 mg 2-aminoisoheptane, a name FDA identifies as DMHA.
  • 4 g citrulline malate 2:1 and 2.5 g beta-alanine.
  • 1 g each of agmatine sulfate and L-tyrosine.

The panel also includes DMAE, phenylethylamine, a Nelumbo extract standardized for higenamine, and huperzine A. Its 75 mg Nelumbo entry is an extract weight, not a verified 75 mg dose of pure higenamine. Likewise, 4 g citrulline malate is not 4 g pure L-citrulline.

The FDA position outweighs sales language

The manufacturer describes DMHA as legal, but FDA’s published position says it does not qualify as a dietary ingredient or an approved food additive and that supplements containing it are adulterated under U.S. federal food law. Online availability, reviews and experience with caffeine do not establish regulatory compliance or safety.

This finding comes from the manufacturer’s currently accessible page and label, rather than only an old retailer description. Dust X and other Dust products still require separate identification. The Cherry Ice photograph identifies the product family; it does not independently verify the contents of a particular container.

Why reducing the scoop does not resolve the issue

A smaller serving does not remove DMHA from the formula. We therefore provide no Dust X dosing, tolerance-building or stacking plan. Comparing its caffeine number with another pre-workout misses the ingredient that drives this recommendation.

If you have already used it and experience an adverse reaction, stop taking the supplement and seek medical advice. FDA’s consumer guidance explains how to report supplement problems and notes that dietary supplements do not undergo FDA safety approval before marketing. Keep the packaging and lot information available for a clinician or report.

This is a review of published labels and regulatory guidance, not laboratory testing. Consider alternatives only after checking their complete, current ingredient panels; intensity claims are a poor substitute for that check.
