Jack3d, often searched as “Jack 3d,” is a named pre-workout associated with USPlabs. Its history cannot be reduced to one ingredient list, and a modern listing does not establish that a product is safe or lawful. The important distinction is between the original DMAA-containing product and later formulas sold under the name.
What happened to original Jack3d?
The FDA’s DMAA guidance records that it detained DMAA-containing Jack3d and OxyElite Pro in 2013. USPlabs subsequently destroyed the detained products and agreed to stop manufacturing with DMAA. That history does not mean every later Jack3d container has an identical formula.
FDA currently advises consumers not to buy or use DMAA-containing supplements. It says DMAA is not a dietary ingredient and that products containing it marketed as dietary supplements violate US law. Its stated health concerns include elevated blood pressure and serious cardiovascular problems.
The current listing raises a separate concern
The Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Jack3d page explicitly mentions DMHA. Its displayed Fruit Punch label includes 2-aminoisoheptane HCl, geranium extract and yohimbe within a proprietary blend, alongside ingredients such as creatine, beta-alanine and caffeine. This is manufacturer label information, not independent confirmation of the contents of every tub.
FDA lists 2-aminoisoheptane among DMHA’s names and considers DMHA an unsafe food additive. The agency’s current position is that supplements containing DMHA are adulterated. Replacing DMAA with DMHA therefore does not justify calling a formula a safe or legal alternative.
How to interpret an online offer
- Match the exact label and manufacturer, rather than trusting “original,” “new” or “legal” in a seller’s headline.
- Do not treat an active checkout page, customer rating or FDA-registered facility claim as FDA approval of a supplement.
- Keep US regulatory statements separate from rules in other countries and from a sporting organization’s requirements.
