L-theanine and caffeine have been studied together, mainly in small, short-term cognitive experiments. Those studies do not establish a universal ratio, better gym performance or protection from caffeine’s unwanted effects.
The findings depend on the test
One randomized crossover trial found benefits on selected attention and mood measures. A different trial found benefits with caffeine alone that were not retained by the combination it tested. These are not trials of the Bucked Up products linked below.
A study of caffeine and theanine did not find a significant reduction in jitteriness from theanine. Do not interpret the pairing as a guarantee against jitters, a crash or sleep disruption.
Check whether the product contains theanine
The reviewed Franken Juice BAMF panel does not list L-theanine. Neither does the photographed Blue Raz WOKE AF bottle-back panel; WOKE AF’s official gallery also contains conflicting formula versions.
The reviewed Miami Original Pre-Workout panel does not list L-theanine either. Its listed caffeine amount is 200 mg per scoop. A photo, flavor name or general “focus” claim is not evidence of an ingredient absent from the identified panel.
Caffeine precautions still apply
The FDA’s caffeine guidance emphasizes individual sensitivity and total intake from all sources. Adding another ingredient does not override a product warning or establish that a higher-caffeine combination is suitable.
Use the current product catalog to inspect labels rather than assuming a pre-workout supplies the studied pairing. Follow the purchased container’s directions; this article does not provide a dosing ratio or stacking regimen.
