Ascent Pre-Workout: Old Formula and Current Hydration Mix

Ascent Clean Hydration + Energy Citrus yellow-lidded tub showing 100 mg caffeine, 400 mg electrolytes, 232 g and 40 servings
Ascent Clean Hydration + Energy Citrus, 232 g and 40 servings in current manufacturer artwork. This differs from the historical Ascent Pre-Workout; the posted 5.9 g serving graphic does not reconcile exactly with this front weight.

Ascent pre-workout searches can refer to two different formulations. The company’s historical Pre-Workout Clean Energy and Hydration Fuel and its current Clean Hydration + Energy should be read separately. Neither name establishes a generic blend of citrulline, beta-alanine and nootropics. This guide identifies what the manufacturer actually documents.

The historical pre-workout

In its June 11, 2019 announcement, Ascent described a revised recipe with 150 mg caffeine from coffee-fruit extract and 250 mg electrolytes per scoop. The release says the earlier product launched in 2018. This is dated manufacturer evidence, not a current label or proof that a particular old listing remains available.

Current Clean Hydration + Energy

The current Citrus page declares 100 mg caffeine from Coffeeberry Energy and 400 mg electrolytes per serving. Ascent’s formula explanation identifies those electrolytes as 250 mg sodium and 150 mg potassium. That is a different caffeine-and-electrolyte combination from the 2019 product, not merely a new name for an identical verified formula.

The posted Citrus Nutrition Facts graphic lists 40 servings and one 5.9 g scoop. It declares 20 calories, 5 g carbohydrate, 2 g total sugar, including 2 g added sugar, and no protein. Its ingredient list contains cane sugar, citric acid, natural flavors, sodium citrate, potassium citrate, sea salt, coffee-fruit extract and stevia-leaf extract. Citrulline, beta-alanine and creatine are not listed on that graphic.

A packaging detail needs clarification

The manufacturer’s current Citrus packshot reads 232 g and 40 servings. Multiplying the separate graphic’s 5.9 g by 40 gives 236 g. That mismatch leaves the exact serving-weight match unresolved. The photo therefore identifies current Clean Hydration + Energy packaging; it is not proof that every displayed label element belongs to the same physical lot. Confirm the actual tub’s panel rather than choosing a scoop weight from the photograph.

Read beyond the front-label claims

The graphic also warns that production equipment processes tree nuts and peanuts. A vegan or soy-free statement should not be broadened into an assertion that the product is free of every allergen. Similarly, “no artificial sweeteners” does not mean unsweetened: cane sugar and stevia appear in the ingredients.

Caffeine from coffee fruit still counts toward caffeine intake. FDA guidance notes that sensitivity and caffeine metabolism vary; the source being naturally derived does not establish personal suitability. This version guide reports label information, without promising superior hydration, a crash-free experience or better training than another supplement.
