Specimen is a GLAXON product family
Specimen pre-workout refers to named GLAXON formulas. The manufacturer’s catalog distinguishes Specimen Genesis from Specimen Max, including PEZ-branded editions. A search result using only “Specimen” is therefore incomplete: check the full name before comparing ingredient amounts.
This review focuses on the official United States Genesis panel and the PEZ Lemon Max panel available during the source check. It does not apply their numbers to every older Specimen, worldwide edition or retailer listing.
Genesis: two scoops make the labeled serving
The GLAXON Specimen Genesis listing presents a 315 g product. Its official Supplement Facts panel defines one serving as two scoops weighing 15 g, with 21 servings per container. The key disclosed quantities per two scoops are:
- Caffeine anhydrous: 300 mg
- Beta-alanine: 3,200 mg
- Betaine nitrate, NO3-T: 2,000 mg
- D-beta-hydroxybutyrate as goBHB mineral salts: 1,500 mg
- Betaine anhydrous: 1,250 mg
- Astrolyte electrolyte blend: 1,100 mg
- VitaCholine choline bitartrate: 200 mg; Cognizin CDP-choline: 100 mg
Twenty-one two-scoop servings correspond to 42 scoops. The arithmetic for one scoop is half the listed quantities, including 150 mg caffeine; it is not another full 300 mg serving. That calculation explains the label and is not an individualized dosing recommendation.
Ingredient forms matter as much as the totals
Two grams of betaine nitrate is not a declaration of two grams of nitrate. Similarly, the goBHB entry includes magnesium and calcium salts; it should not be casually relabeled as the same weight of free BHB. Astrolyte’s combined weight is not the sodium amount. The panel separately reports sodium at 120 mg.
Citrulline is absent from the reviewed Genesis panel. Describing every Specimen as a conventional citrulline-based formula would miss a meaningful difference in this version.
Max is a separate stimulant formula
The manufacturer’s PEZ Specimen Max panel also uses two scoops, 15 g and 21 servings, but lists 400 mg caffeine anhydrous and 2,500 mg betaine anhydrous. It additionally lists Rauwolfia root-bark extract at 3 mg and yohimbe root-bark extract at 2 mg.
Those are extract weights, not disclosed quantities of pure alpha-yohimbine or yohimbine. They should not be added and reported as “5 mg yohimbine.” The image also includes a separate nutrition panel for the enclosed PEZ candy; its sugar information is not the pre-workout powder’s Supplement Facts.
Read marketing claims cautiously
Genesis page language about restful evenings does not establish that a 300 mg caffeine serving will leave sleep unaffected. The FDA lists sleep disruption among possible effects of excess caffeine. Check other caffeine sources and the complete package warnings.
The NIH exercise-supplement review explains that evidence for individual ingredients cannot establish the safety or effectiveness of an untested combination. Use the exact panel to compare products, rather than treating stimulant intensity or a “daily driver” description as proof of suitability. No firsthand workout, taste or mixability testing is claimed here.
